Cheesecakes are traditionally
made with cream cheese, and not actual cheese. The first cheesecake was made in the 5th century BCE.However, the term cheesecake has only been used since the 15th century. Europeans replaced yeast with beaten eggs, which made the bread taste more like a dessert. In 1872, William Lawrence accidentally made cream cheese.

The first birthday cake was made in Germany during the Middle Ages. Back then, cakes were more like bread than the cakes we know today. In the 17 century, cakes were decorated. Only the wealthy could afford these. During the 18th century, food and baking utensils became more affordable, and so the price of cakes declined.
